Inspire Innovation

Driving down the road the other day with my sister she mentioned an idea for an invention. Now, I must admit at first the idea sounded a bit crazy and I was having trouble imagining its feasibility (sorry I’m not going to reveal the idea, just in case). As I listened to her describe the idea, my first response to her was; well that will be awfully expensive. She quickly pointed out that every invention generally starts off expensive, which was a good point and also made me realize that she was generally interested in this idea and had put some good thought into it. Who am I too tell her that her idea would not work or that it was too expensive? I also thought about how I would feel if someone shot down one of my far fetched ideas, which trust me, has happened on more than one occasion and does not feel too good. So as I was talking to my sister I realized that it would be a good policy to always encourage someone with a new idea. I engaged her in conversation, had her draw a picture of the idea and discussed possible techniques to build it along with potential costs. I think it is important to inspire people to be creative and help their innovative drive. Fear is a weird thing that can make people freeze rather than act, so why discourage people and put more fear in them. It is better to try and fail rather than not try at all. Just having encouragement to attempt something can be a huge confidence builder for any budding entrepreneur!
